Where We’re Headed

The OutWord Roadmap for 2023

I use Weeknotes as a way to remember where we were, what got accomplished, and what needs to be invoiced. 2022 has been a bonkers year for OutWord. To maintain the momentum and get out of the day-to-day, month-over-month rut that I sometimes find myself in, I figured it would be best to lay out a roadmap of what you can expect in the coming year.

The Overall Goals

Expanding The Client Book

  • OutWord has a stable consisting of five regular clients who receive “copy consultant” services (copywriting, content production, advisement on strategy, brand-driven messaging, story development, etc.) in addition to the one-off projects that come through the door.

  • We are looking to expand this collection of clients by two regular clients per quarter. We aim to do this by further supporting the copywriting needs of advertising and marketing agencies.r

Further Promotion of Into The Abyss and Master The Draft

Reducing commission-based leads

  • Leftover from my solo freelance days, platforms like Upwork and Fiverr are still somewhat active for sending leads my way. However, since the leads are housed within the platforms the projects tend to be smaller than what can reasonably be serviced considering the revenue share of the client’s budget.

Anticipated timelines

Q1

  • eBook - Do Not Engage

    • How the scope of content and our desired scale of billions has ruined our ability to enjoy just about anything.

  • (Finally) establishing OutWord lead generation flows.

  • Continuous updating of lead gen with advertising and PR means and methods

    • Ideally: podcasts and guest blogs, grab a few bylines

Q2

  • Into The Abyss v.3.0

    • Updated video content, PDFs, and some invitations for live sessions

  • eBook: Own Your Distortion

    • You have everything you need to do whatever it is you want to do. It’s just a matter of owning the damn thing. Built from the notes and structure of the 2019/2022 course of the same name.

Q3

  • eBook - Grafitti Shouldn’t Be So Pretty

  • Paid Group Sessions: The Everday Creator

    • Thinking laterally and obtusely to get out of your way and experiment with the stuff that will drive you forward

Q4

  • Paid Group Sessions: Copy Bootcamp

    • As simple as it sounds. Likely a day-long session (live? Zoom?) coupled with one-on-one consults.

  • Publishing The OutWord Method.

    • The whole point of OutWord is that there wasn’t a method or a process. This makes it impossible to scale. The OutWord Method is a short course for those looking to bring their creative capacities to OutWord. Adopt the method and you can work with the team.
